Glow-in-the-dark and black light parties can be exciting. Creating an awesome outfit can make you stand out in the dark.

Below, you will find ideas for putting together glow-in-the-dark clothes, light-up accessories, stand-out makeup and body paint, and more to make your black light outfit really rock.

So turn out the lights and get ready to glow!

Glow Clothes

Finding clothes that will show up under a black light is probably the easiest part of choosing an outfit.

Most white clothes will glow under a black light and so will most neon-colored clothes. There are also tons of shirts that have designs on them that will glow. Those are usually labeled as glow-in-the-dark, so they are easy to spot.

You can also make your clothes stand out even more by decorating them with special paint or tape. Draw designs, write words, or just drip paint splatters 80s style.

Ideas for Costume Designs

These are some easy design ideas:

  • Hearts
  • Stars
  • Moon
  • Sun
  • Peace symbols
  • Flowers
  • Balloons
  • Faces
  • Words
  • Splatters

Most glow-in-the-dark fabric paint will glow without a black light, but if you have one, it will glow even brighter.

If you want to blend into the dark, choose dark clothing. Keep in mind that if your clothes were recently washed, they may have lit-up spots from the detergent. You can try running your clothes through the wash without detergent to try to rinse out any bits of detergent or lint.

Be aware that certain bodily fluids may also glow under a black light.

Glowing Tip

If you have access to a black light before the party, you may want to do a dress rehearsal of your clothes to see how they look.

Glowing Accessories

Glow-in-the-dark accessories can add flair to your black light outfit. You can get glowing vampire fangs, jewelry, glasses, hats, gloves, and much more.

  • Glow sticks, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings are also good to wear. Loop them up your arms and/or legs for a neat look.
  • Jewelry you already have may also glow. Neon colors usually glow under a black light. Some rocks and minerals also glow, so jewelry with certain stones may show up.
  • You can also use glow paint to decorate your own jewelry.

Check party stores and dollar stores or order them online.

LIght-Up Toys and Accessories

Accessories and toys that light up are good for glowing parties as well. LED accessories can be found just about everywhere. You can get light-up necklaces, bracelets, rings, shoe accessories, hair accessories, belts, and just about anything else you can think of.

EL wire is one of the coolest light-up materials. It is glowing wire that even has strobe and blinking settings. You can wrap it around yourself or anything else. It comes in blue, green, pink, purple, and many more colors. You can use safety pins to hold it in place if you are going to wrap it around yourself.

Fiber optic accessories are also great to wear. Hair accessories are probably the most common type of fiber optic novelties, but you can find other types as well. Novelty and party stores and online are the most likely places to find light-up accessories.

Glowing Body Art and Makeup

Make your hair and body glow with face or body paint, hair spray, makeup, nail polish, and more.

Some novelty and party stores may carry glowing body art. You can find it seasonally (around Halloween) in department stores as well; otherwise, you can order it online. Check the reviews before you buy, though, because some glowing products aren't very good quality.

Glowing hair spray will show up better on people with light-colored hair. If you have dark hair, it will be tinted under a black light, but it won't be very obvious. You might consider LED fiber optic hair barrettes for added oomph.
