Kitty's favorite holiday is Halloween. She's been making her own costumes and studying Halloween as a holiday for over a decade.

Halloween Costume: Sookie Stackhouse

So your favorite show is True Blood? Why not dress up as the sweet, psychic southern belle Sookie Stackhouse for Halloween this year? I did it last year, and I can tell you from experience that it is not very difficult to find the perfect, quintessential Sookie Stackhouse costume. And there is more than one to choose from!

The first Halloween costume that is simply Sookie is the Merlotte's waitress costume.

Get the look quick:

  • White merlotte's tee (can be ordered online on Etsy and HBO.com or you can screen print your own!)
  • Black athletic shorts (can be purchased at Wal-mart for women and juniors)
  • Green apron (order online on Amazon for cheap!)
  • Use fake blood or eyeliner to make bite-marks on your neck and drip fake blood on your shirt
  • Blonde wig (if your hair isn't blonde already)
  • Bottle of True Blood (can be purchased online too)

This is the Sookie costume that you will see me wearing in the pictures in this hub. If you want to go for a look that is cute and also screams Sookie, this is the costume to wear this year. The easiest and cheapest way to find those key Sookie waitress pieces is to surf the internet for "Merlotte's Tshirts" or even "Sookie Tshirt". HBO's website has all of the True Blood costumes and t-shirts for sale, but they are usually a little bit expensive at about $25 and up. I actually purchased my Merlotte's baby tee from etsy.com for less than $20 with shipping and handling. The next key piece which is simple to find anywhere, even in Walmarts and Targets, is Sookie's black athletic shorts. These are the types of shorts that cheerleaders and volleyball players usually wear to work outs. They are black with a white elastic band inside and can usually be found for less than $10. I'm sure these could be ordered online, as well.

Also, you'll want to order a green waist apron to tie the whole look together. If you really want to go all out, add a notepad and a circular serving tray to complete your outfit. Maybe even add an authentic bottle of Tru Blood to your tray and Voila! Quintessential Sookie Stackhouse in a package.

Note: in my costume I added a some bite marks to the side of my neck and some fake stage blood running down my neck and also a little dripping from the corner of my mouth. While Sookie Stackhouse isn't a vampire in the show or novel series, if you watch the show, you'll know why I chose to drip some stage blood from the corner of Sookie's (my) mouth. White tennis shoes were also worn and pantyhose to try to keep the mosquitoes from tearing up my legs too much.

Other Sookie Stackhouse Halloween Costume Options

If you want a different and truly unique Sookie Stackhouse costume for this Halloween, pick out a retro, sweet sundress and curl your hair for one of Sookie's date-night looks. A cute summer sundress can be found at any clothing boutique in the mall including Forever 21, Charlotte Rousse, Wet Seal, Bebe, etc. Slap on a pair of espadrilles and you're set. Of course, stage blood to the neck would be a nice touch. And maybe a cute headband in your hair like the one Sookie's wearing in this picture.

A third option for a Sookie Stackhouse Halloween costume this year is to go with her "first night with Bill" look. Check out etsy for vintage white nightgowns such as the one posted here. The nightgown needs to be wispy and somewhat innocent in order to pull off the "first night" look that Sookie did some beautifully in Season 1 of True Blood. Stage blood on the neck for this costume is a must! Go barefoot or with unnoticeable flat sandals and leave your hair long and curly.

With a little creativity and a couple of your fondest memories of True Blood, you can come up with your own Sookie Stackhouse Halloween costume this year or any year for that matter.

Mar - I have no idea, but that would be awesome. :) I just found out yesterday that Anna Paquin is married to Bill in real life...I had no idea but now I love them together more than her and Eric! Though, Eric is too freakin' hott for his own good. Thanks for reading and thanks for the compliment that I could be her double...that's a HUGE compliment. :) You rock.

      kitty,

Any suggestions on what Sookie should wear to find Eric so we (I mean "they") can have much merriment while trick or treating (LOL)! You look adorable and could be Sook's double anytime, mar.

Kittythedreamer, your Sookie Stackhouse Halloween costume is a 1 on a scale of 1-10 for scariness but a 10 for cuteness. What is on your idea list for Halloween 2011?

Meisjunk - Thanks so much! Yes, they are pretty simple to do and not too expensive, either. Ahhh, I love Pam! Yes, I believe I do have some tips, maybe I'll make that into another hub. :) Thanks for the idea. You rock.
