Looking for something fun or inspiring to write in a Christmas card?

Christmas time—it's the most joyous time of the year. It's the time when we celebrate the season by spending time with family and friends and exchanging gifts. It is also the time of year when millions of Christmas cards are exchanged.

If you want to add your sentiments to a Christmas card, but you come up short when it comes to expressing the joy and cheer you feel, peruse the poems, Bible verses, and one-liners below as a starting point. They can be used any way you wish—in a card, in a note, on social media, verbally, and more. Enjoy!

Christmas comes but once a year so make sure your holiday is filled with joy and good cheer. Oh yeah don’t forget my big gift.

1. "Deck the Halls"

Put up the tree and
Deck the halls with mistletoe
It’s Christmas time once again
A time for all to rejoice
Merry Christmas

2. "The Christmas Tree"

Putting up the tree
Decorating it with lights
Throw on some tinsel
Then put on some Christmas balls
Let the holidays begin
Merry Christmas

3. "Let It Snow"

Look a Christmas snow
Makes the holiday special
Everything is white
The festive lights shine so bright
Joyful spirit fills the air
Merry Christmas

4. "Carols"

At this Christmas time
Get your voice ready to sing
Some Christmas carols
Get you in the holiday mood
Make you feel much more festive
Merry Christmas

5. "Jingle Bells"

Jingle, jingle bells
Hear them all ringling, jingling
Across snowy land
A sign Christmas time is here
The most festive time of year
Merry Christmas

6. "Red"

A candy cane stripe
The color of Santa’s suit
Is Rudolph’s bright nose
Is the big wrapped package
Tucked up under the tree
Merry Christmas

7. "Greetings"

Greetings one and all
And tidings of good joy
During this season
Of giving unto others
In the spirit of true love
Merry Christmas

8. Silent Night

On a silent night
Oh so many years ago
A baby was born
Who changed the world forever
Let us celebrate His birth
Merry Christmas

9. "Presents"

At this Christmas time
Remember those you love
Not in the presents
Left under the Christmas tree
In the joy of family
Merry Christmas

10. "White"

The new-fallen snow
Bright white in the moonlight's soft glow
Awaits the big man
Who brings joy to children’s hearts
And smiles to parents' faces
Merry Christmas

11. "Merry"

A merry Christmas
And good tidings of great joy
To one and to all
But remember the reason
We celebrate the season

12. "Noel"

On the first Noel
The angels proclaimed the news
Of a baby’s birth
Which forever changed the world
Let us celebrate
Have a merry Christmas time

13. "Silver"

Hear the bells ringing
Signal the Christmas season
Hear the bells tolling
Ting a ling, ting a ting, ting
Bringing joy to all who hear
Have a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

14. "Jolly"

Here’s to you having
A Holly Jolly Christmas
A time of good cheer
A time free of any worries
About what you’re getting me
For a Christmas gift this year
P.S. I’ve included a list
To help you remain stress-free

15. "The Season"

Jesus, the reason
We celebrate the season
So give love, show thanks
To others who may be in need
During this time of the year
Merry Christmas

16. "Christmas"

What is Christmas time
More than packages with bows
Littered under trees
It is a time to celebrate
With your family and friends

So on this Christmas
Take some time to remember
All of you true gifts
The people who surround you
The joy they bring to your life
Merry Christmas

17. "Winter"

It is getting so cold outside
So let’s get a warm fire going
To ease away the winter chill
Then we’ll sing Christmas carols
And drink some spicy eggnog
Merry Christmas

18. "Family"

At this time of year
Your family and your friends
You need to hold dear
As you seek to shower them
With your tidings of good cheer

19. "Christmas Is Not"

Christmas is not about
The boxes or the bows
Kisses under the mistletoe
Trees decorated with lights
It’s all about a silent night
That happened ages ago
Underneath a star's soft glow
When the angels did sing
About a newborn king

Tis the Season
To remember the reason
We come together as one
Merry Christmas

20. "Presents"

There is one gift you give
At this time of the year
A gift that always comes
Wrapped with good cheer

A gift given from the heart
A gift truly one of a kind
A gift so special
It will truly blow your mind

The gift if you’re wondering
Is not found inside this card
Or in a box wrapped in a bow
Or sitting out in the yard

The gift is just the love
You give away each year
To all those who surround you
To all those who you hold dear

Merry Christmas

21. "Christmas Rush"

With all the running around
I’ve done the last few weeks
All the lights I’ve hung
The decorating of the tree
The cookies I’ve baked
I still managed to get you
This great Christmas card
No, really it was in a box
That had fifty cards in it
This was the top card
Well anyway
It is the thought that counts
Merry Christmas

22. "Generic Christmas"

I’ve decided this year
To have a generic Christmas
No, frills, no glamour
Just a plain Christmas
So, to honor my word
This is the card
You gave me last year
I’ve crossed out the name
And put my name there
Merry Christmas
