Ideas for Those Who Are Stumped

Your anniversary is coming up, and you are short on ideas. Never fear—Google has led you here, where you will find quotes, sayings, gift ideas, and other ways to wow your partner on this most important date. Give yourself a pat on the back—you've remembered! Whether it is the morning of your anniversary or two weeks out, there is an idea for everyone.

Creative Gift Ideas (for Those Who Have a Little Extra Planning Time)

If you have a little time to prepare, one of these ideas will be sure to captivate your loved one while saying "I love you" in a special way.

Video Montage

Gather up a bunch of pictures of you and your partner over the years. Upload them to One True Media, a free online site to create a montage. Once you've added the pictures, OTM allows you to add text, styles, and music to your video. You can buy it as a DVD or upload it to your blog or website as a way to declare your love. You don't need to be Internet-savvy to pull off this gift, and he or she will definitely be teary-eyed when receiving this gift.

Photo Shoot

If you don't have a lot of pictures of the two of you, why not secretly set up a photo shoot with a friend or photographer? You can create some stunning and memorable photographs together. A good photographer will be able to capture your love as you two frolic and play in the woods or at the beach. This is a great bonding experience.

Photo Scrapbook

If a music video montage is too intimidating, you can gather up some photos and create a lasting and memorable scrapbook on a site like Shutterfly. You have total control over design, layout, color, and captions. This is a great opportunity to include fun sayings and inside jokes from your dating days.

Flash Mob Performance

This is only for the most daring and creative types. If you haven't checked out Isaac's Lip-Dub Proposal (see video below), you will be inspired by the lengths this man went to, to propose to his fiancée. You can do the same for a memorable anniversary. You'll need friends and family to help you, but the reaction from your partner will be worth it!

Stuff to Put in That Card!

  • What To Write In An Anniversary Card
Finding the right words to say in an anniversary card can be daunting when you want to say so much, but can not find the words to do so. Or writing love letters ended years ago, and it is something that is out of practice. Anniversary's are a great t

Anniversary Quotes

If you need a quote for a handmade card, scrapbook, or caption, choose from the following sayings.

"True love doesn't have a happy ending . . .
It simply does not end."

"My love for you deepens with each passing year—growing stronger, more sure, and more at peace. The love of my life is right in front of me."

"When I said, 'I do', it meant that I would love, trust, and care. I didn't realize how much it would mean that I enjoy, delight, and like 'doing' what I do to be yours."

"I love you with every wipe of the counter, swish of the toilet, and toss of the garbage. I love you when I brush my teeth, change the sheets, and share morning coffee. You make the mundane enjoyable, and the enjoyable, divine."

"When I meant us together forever, I didn't realize how fast it would go with you. I want another forever."

"Marriage is hard work, but I have the best tutor ever!"

"Another anniversary, another year. I still can't believe you let me love you the way I do. Thank you for giving me your heart."

Last-Minute Gift Ideas That Say "I Love You"

If you're out of time, here are some quick and easy ideas for ways to show appreciation to your partner.

Edit One Photo

This doesn't take that long. Find a digital photo of the two of you that is flattering. Go on a site like Pic Monkey and add some text and design to make it memorable. You can print it at a one-hour place and frame it, or simply post it on Facebook with a shameless plug for your beloved.

This photo below took about ten minutes to produce with Pic Monkey. You can find a tutorial if you are unsure how to use it.

Grab Takeout

Get some food (and a bottle of wine) from your partner's favorite restaurant.

Grab a Bag of Chocolates or Other Favorite Candy

It is even more meaningful if you can pick something out that has some "inside" meaning (i.e., your first date dessert, etc.)

Prepare a Little Speech

If you are going out for dinner, why not get the restaurant's attention and read a poem in front of everyone? You will knock your partner off his or her feet with this bold display of love.

Do Odds and Ends (With Love)

  • Fill up his or her gas tank in the morning.
  • Order an expensive latte and bring it to your partner in bed.
  • Call in a fancy lunch at work.
  • Arrange for a cleaning service to come in and pick up the house.

What About Hard Anniversaries?

Many couples don't have blissful marriages. An anniversary comes, and you are stuck either "faking" it or ignoring it, neither of which are good ideas. Honesty is always the best policy, but on an anniversary, why not infuse it with a bit of hope?

  • Find a wedding photo, make a copy of it, and write a heartfelt note on it:

"I know our marriage hasn't been easy, but I still don't regret the day I said, 'I do.' Maybe we aren't where we want to be, but I want to get back to that day. I love you."

  • Arrange a date that isn't so intense (like a weekend away or a dinner). Instead, try for a hike, a movie, or some other activity you both love. Sometimes, doing things together helps with bonding in an indirect manner.
  • Recommit: Maybe you can find your old vows and recommit to him or her that you will try to return to what you promised so many years ago.

Anniversary Sayings

"Anniversaries are like wine. They get better with age."

"Happy anniversary to the one who knows what my farts smell like."

"Anniversaries are a celebration of a lifelong partnership that tests your integrity, honor, and self-control."

"Anniversaries are a reminder that we tolerate each other so well!"

"An anniversary is a date to recommit to loving someone else with everything in you."

Even If You Only Have a Little Time and Money

When you take a moment to think about your partner, your gift, card, or saying will mean so much more. Find a song that you both like, and have it playing when your spouse comes home from work. Wear his or her favorite perfume. Those small tokens are what builds a solid foundation of love and care in a relationship.

Hi Julie,

"Another anniversary, another year. I still can't believe you let me love you the way I do. Thank you for giving me your heart."

I have never been married but I would hope these feelings would endure through the years if I were.

Voted up and away

Take care.

Great tips, Julie. I also like to be creative on our special days and try to bring in some dance, music along with take out food.

It's nice to be as a family and cherish the moments so far...

Great share. As a husband I was a late bloomer. after our loonnnggggg honeymoon was over, it took me some time to figure out: I can date my wife! It was... ???

Rich from Kentucky on September 17, 2012:

Great ideas, Julie! After 32 years, I finally came up with one that meant something to my wife. "An anniversary is just another day to me. Who needs a special day when every one I spend with you is a special day I'll treasure forever? As I've always said, you're my wife for life." Anyway, it got her off my case. lol Great job as always!

kelleyward on September 17, 2012:

Janine Huldie from New York, New York on September 17, 2012:

Ok, Julie seriously this gave me some great ideas and food for thought for our next wedding anniversary even if it isn't until next July (therefore I pinned to refer back to). Truly loved the montage of photos idea, because we have a ton of photos of the years and can't help but have them all saved, so this would work nicely for us. Also the example shown with your own picture. Have of course also voted, shared and tweeted too!!

Susan Zutautas from Ontario, Canada on September 17, 2012:

Our 25th is coming up in November and I've always wanted to go to the Church we got married in and do it again. Invite all of the same people that were at our wedding the first time around (those that are alive that is) and party like there's no tomorrow. I don't think that's going to happen this year but whatever we do it will be together :)

Liked all the quotes and all the ideas you've offered.

Kelly Umphenour from St. Louis, MO on September 17, 2012:

Great stuff Julie! My anniversary is Saturday (14 years married - 20 or 21 together)...I love those holidays:) This year I am having a Lobster Gram dinner delivered! David loves lobster but we don't have any fresh around these parts. I even ordered a chocolate three layer cake! I am SO excited.

You are right on the money's those little things that keep you happy from day to day...leaving a note, making a special lunch or just texting to say "hey you sexy beast!" lol
