Do you have a father in your life who likes technological gadgets? Gaming? Fantasy or Science Fiction? I know I do. I’m always trying to find good Father’s Day gifts for him to say thank you for being such a great dad to our three kids. So, if you’re like me, these creative ideas might make cool presents for that special father in your life. The gift ideas range in price from cheap to more pricey, but they’re all fun and creative ideas for a special Father’s Day gift.

1. Firefly Serenity Prints

If the father in your life is as big a Firefly fan as my husband, then you might want to consider getting him either this beautiful schematic print of the Serenity Firefly class ship. It’s done in a DaVinci style. It goes well with a simple black frame. My husband has his hung in the office.

There is also this stately trio of Firefly art pieces featuring Captain Malcolm Art, Mal, and the Serenity. Again, these work well with a simple black frame. Their classic look can work anywhere from a hallway to a family room to an office. My brother just moved and put his trio of Firefly artwork pieces in the family room.

2. Star Wars BBQ Tongs

These amazing BBQ tongs will make any dad feel like a Sith Lord when he cooks. The tongs make Star Wars sound effects to add to the lightsaber feel. The red lightsaber end is actually made from two pieces of metal that the recipient can use to flip burgers or other grilled food.

The lightsaber tongs have a heat resistant grip that looks like the handle of a lightsaber as well. My husband has these. You have to be a little more careful handling these tongs over normal tongs, but as long as you don’t bang them around or fight actual lightsaber battles they work well.

My husband has fun using these at family barbeques. The sound effects add drama to flipping burgers and steaks. The kids really appreciate it too.

3. Shakespearean Insults Chart

This amazing wall chart is for any dad who is looking for more creative and literate insults to throw at others or merely laugh at. Instead of saying someone has misunderstood something at a meeting, now your children’s father can say, “He has not so much brain as ear wax.” Shakespeare invented the true art of the put down. Don’t let dad miss out on this vital verbal virtuosity!

My husband has this chart put up in his office at home. Sometimes he has an “insult-off” with one of our kids using it. It’s funny seeing all of them trying to pronounce the Shakespearean insults with attitude.

4. Electronics Cleaning Putty

This squishy set of five pieces of colored gel-like putty will help keep the dad in your life’s electronic devices clean of all dirt and dust. All he has to do is squish a piece of the putty into the shape he wants and then press the putty a couple of times into the dirty hardware, be it a keyboard or a cell phone pad. Then peel the putty up and the dirt and dust will come with it. Fold the putty over and do it again until the object is clean.

The putty comes with a nice plastic box that helps keep the putty in good shape and away from any animals or young children who might want to try tasting it. We have used this putty and it works well at removing dust and dirt. My youngest actually enjoys helping out with the cleaning when my husband uses this putty.

5. Legend of Zelda Leather Watch

“The flow of time is always cruel… Its speed seems different for each person, but no one can change it… A thing that does not change with time is a memory of younger days.”

  • Sheik, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

This watch perfectly reflects the classic game, The Legend of Zelda. Time may remind the father you buy this for of younger days, but it can also remind him of the time he spends as a father and that is the most precious time of all. This unique father’s day gift features the Hyrule crest and will remind the recipient of his family every time he looks at it. My husband wears his to work most days and really enjoys the way it looks and feels.

6. Kindness Rock

A Kindness rock is something you and your kids make yourselves from a rock you find or purchase. You then paint words or a picture or design on the rock that is kind or funny. In this case, you would want to make something that fits the dad’s personality. You could play on a slogan from a show the kids’ father likes (like “May the rock be with you”) or you could paint a character from a show he likes.

To learn about how to make a simple kindness rock my daughter made for her dad go here.

7. Harry Potter Boxer Shorts

These cute boxer shorts come in a two pack, one Hogwarts pair and one pair from any of the other houses you choose; Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin. Comfortable geek chic, the dad in your life will love these Harry Potter themed boxer shorts.

My husband is partial to Ravenclaw so we gave him that pack of boxers. He even wore them when we went to Universal Studios and saw the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

8. Chromecast Audio

The Chromecast Audio is a product that lets Dad turn any audio device - like a stereo, PC speakers or even a boombox - into a complete wireless music system. Once the Chromecast Audio is set up, all Dad has to do is push a button on his phone or tablet and music apps like Pandora, Spotify or NPR One will play on the bigger speakers via Wi-Fi. Chromecast Audio works on iPhones and iPads with some apps, but it works with all Android apps. At just $35 dollars, the Chromecast Audio gives a good bang for the book on Father’s Day.

We got a Chromecast Audio system for my dad and set it up for him. After a little trial and error my father got the hang of things and now really likes having the speaker sound quality available at the touch of a button.

9. Geek Dad Book

This book is subtitled: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share. It’s a really fun read and has a lot of good daddy-kids ideas in it. Some of the activities in this book include flying a night time kite with lights on it, launching a video camera with balloons(!), building a working lamp with LEGO bricks and CDs, and creating your own board game.

We have this book and it really does have some engaging activities for kids and dads to do together, making it a great nerdy Father’s Day gift.

My husband has done a number of the ideas in this book with our kids who range in age from 10-14 years old. They've really learned a lot from the activities and had a lot of fun doing so. Although we still haven't tried floating a camera with balloons!

10. Thor Glow-in-the Dark Cufflinks

These lovely cufflinks are a perfect present for the father who needs to be ready for a fancy event on earth or on Asgard. The cufflinks feature the God of Thunder with glow-in-the-dark lightning smashing down providing an extra dose of geek chic whenever it gets dark. So if your dad enjoys the Marvel universe, consider getting this pair of cufflinks for your own personal hero.

My husband wears his pair of cufflinks on special occassions. The glow-in-the-dark effect is fun to see in action.

11. Star Trek TNG Uniform Polo

For Star Trek fans everywhere, these cotton, color blocked polos are more comfortable than the spandex originals. Available in gold, red, and blue, the polos come with embroidered rank pips and combadges. Let your favorite nerdy dad live out his fantasies as a Star Fleet officer in one of these stylish and comfortable polos.

My brother has one of these in blue. He's always been a big Star Trek fan and enjoys lounging on his recliner like he's on the deck of the Enterprise when he wears this polo.

12. Molecular Gastronomy Kit

This is a great present for the culinary nerd in your life. The molecular gastronomy kit lets experimental cooks bring their cooking to the next level. Dad will be able to impress family and friends alike with dishes like mini caviar beads that burst as soon as they touch your mouth, chocolate spaghetti, and even lemon foam.

Using this kit, Dad can deconstruct food and cocktails alike using three molecular techniques; Spherification (which encapsulates flavor in bubbles that dissolve in the mouth), Emulsification (creating foams with yummy scents), and Gelification (carving tastes into flavorful pearls, raviolis, and spaghettis).

My husband is the cook in our family, and next to his Instapot, this is one of his favorite toys to play with in the kitchen.

This kit is really fun to work with. Our kids got a complete attack of the giggles when they tried the "caviar" that pops in your mouth as soon as it touches your tongue.

13. Marvel Unlimited

This subscription allows a dad interested in Marvel comics to download over 20,000 titles going all the way back to Captain Marvel’s 1940’s adventures and all the way up to comics that were released six months ago. With new titles coming out all the time, the comic book fan will receive sharp images on their tablet or smartphone. Don’t let the dad in your life get bored. With this subscription, he’ll always have something to read and share with the kids.

14. Tiny Space Invaders

This game is the cutest retro thing going. Dad will be thrown back into his past when he plays this teeny weeny version of Space Invaders. Talk about a blast from the past. Bonus! The game doesn’t even require any quarters to play. Even better, at only 3.5” tall it's so small Dad can clip it onto his belt and walk around with it.

My brother and his son take turns playing this game while watching sports on TV sometimes. I don't know why, but they seem to like it!

Hahahaha, that is quite a list. I'm glad I'm not a geek, well not much of a geek anyway.
