Creative Ideas for Gift Wrapping

During a celebration, you might find yourself brainstorming some creative ideas for gift wrapping so that your presents won't fall to the back of the pile. We spend a lot of money on creative and luxury presents every year; why not dress them up so that they stand out?

This is especially true of Valentine's gifts, anniversary gifts, and birthday gifts. These are all very special times in life; from the spectacular 18th birthday to the loving aura of a 50th anniversary. The more unique the gifts are, the more memorable the celebration is!

I have put this list together carefully for your enjoyment and, hopefully, use. Please enjoy the ideas that you find here, and I hope that you all have the happiest of holidays with friends and family!

Keeping It Simple: Cash Gifts

If you are planning to give cash as a gift, there are several different ways to give it to the recipient creatively. Cash is one of the most common gifts; right next to gift cards. It is especially helpful when you have no idea of what to give the recipient. Every needs or wants money, as it can allow the recipient to use it as they desire.

My favorite idea for gift wrapping money is to put it inside of a candy box. This is awesome if you have a sweet tooth, as you can save the box for the next holiday. You can leave the wrappers inside of the box, and place a single bill in each wrapper. Try folding the bills into small squares first, with the amount showing as it is in the picture.

How about a prank gift box this year? I personally bought this particular box for my stepfather, and I can't wait to see his reaction on Christmas! I put collectible hot wheels in it- I just thought it was the craziest one I could find- LOVE these!!!

Prank Gift Wrapping

If you have the urge to prank the person who will be getting your gift, this rubber band wrapped gift is a great way to do so! Rubber bands are cheap and come in bulk; this allows you to buy hundreds without spending too much. You can then wrap and twist them around the gift until you have reached a satisfactory binding. If you'd like to play this game in hard mode, only use traditional colored rubber bands; this makes it harder for the recipient to figure out which rubber band is which!

If this is not good enough, try wrapping the gift in hard to break or hard to cut material. This could involve several twist ties around a boxed gift or wiring around other gifts. You could also place a gift into several boxes over and over again. You would tape each box, wrap it, place it in a second box, place peanuts or gift wrap over the gift, seal the second box, wrap it, place it in a third, and so on. This is rather funny as the shrinking box will begin to alarm the recipient!

Simple & Elegant Ideas

Gift wrapping doesn't have to be complex, expensive, or time consuming. As a matter of fact, an elegant, clean present with a simple initial can be very personal and creative. If you find yourself with a ton of gifts to give this year, this might be the best route. You can cut the first letter of the recipient's first name out of scrapbook paper, thick wrapping paper, foam, and many other materials. You could later decorate it with items such as glitter or feathers afterwards as well!

Use Candy

Almost everyone loves candy, so why not decorate your presents with it? You can create cute little pockets on the presents for storing the candy, such as the image to the right. Some candy must be kept in a pocket or baggy, so this is a great idea.

If some of the candy is individually packaged, you could try gluing or taping the candy onto the gift. You might even be able to create a 3D sculpture with it; the sky's the limit when it comes to your own creativity!

If at all possible, you might want to try to stick with a brand of candy that most closely relates to the gift, the holiday, or the special occasion. Examples would be: Sweethearts for Valentine's Day, chocolate eggs for Easter, and candy canes for Christmas!

Try Materials Other Than Paper

If you run out of wrapping paper, especially at the last minute when all of the stores are closed late at night, you may need to really think outside of the box in order to wrap the gift. Thankfully, there are some pretty wonderful ideas floating around!

For starters, you can wrap a gift in a blanket. You could use a spare blanket in the home. With a bit of twine or ribbon, it appears as if the gift was meant to be wrapped like that. If you happened to purchase a blanket as a gift for that individual, you can use it instead! Other than blankets, shirts are a prime idea as well. Larger, long-sleeved shirts tend to work best for this purpose. Remember: the gift must be small enough that the shirt can cover it completely while still looking good.

If you have none of these items on hand, reach for the newspaper! If you have worn out all of your reserves, newspaper can catch you before you fall. It will keep the gift covered and still provide that pleasurable shredding experience that wrapping paper provides. Doesn't sound like such a bad idea, after all! You can try to decorate the newspaper with ribbons, bows, beads, sequins, glitter, markers, and paper cut outs to damper the boring black and white coloration.

Stashing Gift Cards

When contemplating creative ideas for gift wrapping loaded cards, you might be able to get away with some packaging from the store that the card is loaded for. This is best used with fast food or restaurants. The example to the right, for a Starbuck's gift card, is a brilliant idea. For places with burgers, you might place the card into a burger box (and possibly even craft a faux burger out of felt to store the card inside of).

If the gift card comes from a book store, you could place the gift card into a homemade box that looks like a book. Making a creative bookmark out of the card and placing it inside of a new book that you bought as a gift is a good idea as well.

Never Forget to Personalize!

Creative ideas for gift wrapping are mere ideas if you don't personalize the gift wrap to the individual. It is always a good idea to match the d├ęcor on the present, the color scheme, and any candy to the person that you are giving the gift to. Try to ensure that the gift is as personalized to that person as it possibly can be! This will make the gift that much more special to them.
