Inexpensive Halloween Craft Ideas Inspired by the Dollar Store

For awesome Halloween decorations and craft ideas, you can stock up on supplies at your local dollar store, whether that's Dollar Tree, Dollar General or another store. It's so much fun to hunt for bargain supplies, then get creative and turn them into incredible-looking décor!

These crafts are great for both adults and kids celebrating Halloween. Crafting is such a fun activity for children, especially if you need to entertain them for an afternoon. As an added bonus, the crafts can then be used as decorations throughout your home. Check out tons of ideas for DIY Halloween crafts using dollar store items in this article!

Spooky Full Moon Pizza Pan Scene

The craft shown at the top of the article is a spooky scene of a witch's house silhouetted against a full moon. Can you guess what that full moon is made from? Yep, it's a pizza pan from the dollar store! You can spray paint these pans any colour you like. You can also find the ghosts, bats, pumpkins, haunted house and toy spider at the dollar store, along with some fake foliage for the tree. Use a hot glue gun to assemble your scene!

DIY Halloween Domes

DIY Halloween Domes

Make these domes using cloches and skeletons found at Dollar Tree, along with other minis. You can pose the skeletons in a humourous way—like the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" skeletons shown in the photo above—or in a scary way. Consider adding battery-operated tea lights or firefly lights to illuminate the domes, especially if you want to display them on your porch!

Painted Halloween Spoons and Spatulas

Painted Halloween Spoons and Spatulas

Painted Halloween Spoons and Spatulas

You can find cheap wooden spoons and spatulas at the dollar store, and you can turn these into cute or creepy characters by painting faces on them! Here are a few decoration ideas:

  • Mummy: Paint a spoon (or spatula) black. Wrap it with gauze, and glue on two googly eyes.
  • Jack-o-Lantern: Paint a spoon orange. Add a face with black paint or a Sharpie.
  • Jack Skellington: Paint a spoon white. Add Jack's eyes and toothy mouth with black paint or a Sharpie.
  • Ghost: Paint a spoon white. Add a moaning face with black paint or a Sharpie.
  • Candy Corn: Paint a spoon yellow on the bottom, orange in the middle and white on top. (Yummy!)
  • Frankenstein: Paint a spatula green. (It's best to use a spatula for this one to create Frank's rectangular head shape!) Paint the top part black to create his hair. Glue on googly eyes and paint or draw on his face, including a scar.

The photos below show additional ways to design these and other fun characters! Keep scrolling for more inspiration.

Jack Skellington Crafts (From Nightmare Before Christmas)

Look closely—the amazing Jack Skellington shown above is made from painted flower pots! You can create the figure by gluing two flower pots together end-to-end. Paint it with a black and white colour scheme, and paint four mini flower pots black and white as well. Use pipe cleaners to attach the mini flower pots so they look like Jack's hands and feet.

Flower pots aren't the only option for Jack. Check out the photos below to see Jack crafts made from cookie jars, candle stands and fishbowls, too!

Eyeball Clothespin Wreath

Clothespin wreaths are a great craft for any season! Here's how to make this Halloween-coloured creepy eyeball wreath.

Dollar Store Supplies

  • Wire wreath form
  • Clothespins
  • Paint (black, orange, green and purple)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Giant googly eyes
  • Ribbon
  • Mini "Eek" signs

Instructions

  1. Paint the clothespins in the Halloween colours. You'll want an even amount of each colour.
  2. When the clothespins are dry, clip them to the wire wreath form. It looks nice when you do three pins in the same colour in a row (like in the photo above).
  3. Hot-glue on the googly eyes and "Eek" signs, plus any other decorations you like.
  4. Use the ribbon to add a loop for hanging the wreath.
