I love Christmas and enjoy giving ideas on how to celebrate the holidays.

Elf on the Shelf

Bringing home a new baby is always exciting. The first year is filled with new milestones and memories. Christmas time is the perfect time to create memories you and your family will cherish forever. Elf on the Shelf has become a tradition in many households. Based on the book written by Carol V. Aebersold and Chanda Bell, the tradition says that the elf will report to Santa if and only if the child does not touch him. There are many cute ideas (and perfect photo opportunities, might I add) to enjoy Elf on the Shelf even if it is your child's first Christmas.

Elf on the Shelf in Baby's Car Seat

Placing the Elf on the Shelf in the baby's car seat is a great way to use the elf both before and after your baby has come home from the hospital. If your baby is still in the hospital, you can have the elf announce how happy he or she will be when the baby comes home to meet him or her. If your child is already home, just put the elf in the car seat for a funny comparison of the size difference.

Baby and Elf Swaddle

If your baby likes to be swaddled, then this is a perfectly adorable idea! Swaddle your baby up nice and cozy, and then swaddle Elf on the Shelf with his very own blanket. Place the swaddled elf beside your baby for a cute picture. Just be sure to remove the elf if your baby will be left unsupervised. It is recommended that you don't leave loose items or stuffed animals in a crib with a baby.

Putting the elf in baby's bottle is a funny way to bring a smile. Just put him in there for a quick picture, or leave him in the bottle for older siblings to find. You could even give him a straw to pretend like he is stealing some of baby's milk. The possibilities are endless.

Elf Reads to Baby

Choose a book for Elf on the Shelf to read to baby. Place the Elf near the baby while propping the book up. Hardback books are easiest to use. Choose any book you would like, but nighttime books or Christmas stories are just perfect!

Elf Helps Decorate the Christmas Tree

Many times, we see the Elves on the Shelves being messy, naughty, and ornery. But sometimes, they can be sweet and helpful too. Have your elf help hang the baby's Christmas ornament on the tree. The elf could even be the one who gives the ornament as a gift. It is easy to prop the elf in the branches of a tree. Have fun!

Or Your Elf on the Shelf Can Have Their Very Own Baby!
