I love Christmas and enjoy sharing ideas on how to celebrate the holidays.
How to Hide Your Elf on the Shelf
These ideas are a little more naughty than nice. No more of the cute and innocent Elf on the Shelf ideas—get ready for some practical jokes and a little mayhem that will have your children rolling on the floor with laughter.
To be able to handle these next several ideas, you will have to be prepared to clean up a little mess that your Elf on the Shelf may leave behind. Don't worry, it's all good, clean fun, and you will really enjoy watching how your kids react to these funny and mischievous ideas for hiding your elf!
The Jokester Elf
This Elf on the Shelf idea loves to play practical jokes on the family. Nothing in the house is safe—not even the Christmas stockings. In this picture, the elf has replaced the Christmas stockings with, you guessed it, a pair of undies!
If your little one has not made it to undies yet, replace the stocking with a diaper or pull-up. Parents you are not safe from the jokester elf—go on and be a good sport and replace your stocking with your undies too. The kids will love it!
The Sweet Tooth Elf
With this kind of Elf on the Shelf around, you better hide that jar of Christmas candy. He has a very bad sweet tooth and loves anything with sugar. He has been known to crawl into the candy jar and get stuck on occasion.
As you can see from this picture, my boys caught our elf in the candy jar the other day. My youngest son's reaction was priceless as he asked me if the elf was in trouble for getting candy without asking first.
The Potty Training Elf
Can you handle a little bathroom humor for your Elf on the Shelf? Place your elf somewhere above or behind the toilet. Drape toilet paper everywhere to create the picture that your elf didn't have the decency to flush the toilet.
I have heard of people adding green food coloring to the water in the toilet to make it seem like he went number 1. I have also heard of the idea of putting some type of chocolate in the toilet for—yes, you guessed it—number two. It's totally up to you how far you want to go with this idea!
The Naughty Elf
Watch out for this naughty Elf on the Shelf! He takes the practical joke one step farther and draws on your picture frames.
With a washable or Expo marker, draw a funny face on a family photo or a photo of your child. Place the elf above the picture frame with the marker in his hands. Your children will be shocked when they see this idea!
The Troublemaker Elf
After all these practical jokes and mayhem this Elf on the Shelf has caused this family, it is no wonder that the police caught up to him.
Did he really think he could get away with it all and not get punished? I don't think so. Our police department in my son's room handcuffed him and took him to the big house. My oldest son who is obsessed with policemen will love this idea!
Only One Rule: Be Creative
I hope these funny and mischievous ways to hide your Elf on the Shelf is useful if you have run short on ideas. Whether your Elf on the Shelf has been naughty or nice, have fun and be creative with the ways your elf makes his appearance in the morning. Your children will love the change of pace if your Elf on the Shelf causes a little mischief in the house. If you have any other funny and mischievous ways to hide your Elf on the Shelf, please leave your idea in the comment box below. Have fun hiding your Elf on the Shelf in funny and mischievous ways!

I had my Elf get into my glitter last year....what a mess! ;)
BTW: my kids are 11 and 14, but I still do this. Not sure who enjoys it more...me or the kiddos! My elf went missing this year too, and after looking for him for over a week, I went out and bought another. If the first shows up, it will just give me more ideas for them to BOTH get in trouble! :)

Thanks girltalksshop! I was getting bored with hiding the elf in all the same places as last year. I started writing down all these ideas and then I thought I might as well write a hub about them. Appreciate the vote up and your sweet comment!

Very true lisa42! But it's all good fun - my boys have a good laugh and I always tell them that the elf will be cleaning up his own mess :) Thanks for reading and commenting!

These are hysterical. I don't think our elf will be doing too many naughty things (after all, he's supposed to be on the lookout for who's being naughty and who's being nice, not engaging in bad behavior himself!), but getting caught in the candy jar is a really cool idea. Love it!

These ideas were all a big hit with my boys! By far the drawing on their pictures with an expo marker got the most laughs from them. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!
