My husband and I are avid coffee drinkers. We used to drink a lot of coffee at coffee shops, and now we love making our own coffee at home.

What Is National Coffee Day?

Happy National Coffee Day to all you caffeine enthusiasts out there! Every year on September 29th, millions of coffee fiends (including myself) from around the world get a chance to celebrate their love for anything related to a cup of java. My husband and I celebrate National Coffee Day by going to all the coffee places near our house to drink as much free and discounted coffee as we can! Why not? Food and beverage chains such as Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Krispy Kreme, and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf all offer freebies or promotions on National Coffee Day.

Cappuccinos are my favorite coffee drink.

What About International Coffee Day?

In the US, National Coffee Day is celebrated annually on September 29th. People elsewhere in the world celebrate International Coffee Day on October 1st. Clearly, coffee has become a crucial component of culture in modern society.

The popularity of coffee drinks is evident in the sheer volume of people who share their daily cup of java on social media. As of this article's writing, a search for the hashtag #coffee on Instagram yields over 115 million posts.

Years ago, drinking coffee was just a regular part of most people's routines. These days, however, coffee seems to have developed a culture all its own. For example, my husband and I like to hang out at our local cafe for hours chatting with friends on the weekend. On the weekdays, we see so many people enjoying quality time with colleagues after work over a cup of joe. Still more prefer to sit in silence at the cafe to focus on work while sipping a cappuccino or latte. It's no wonder so many businesses have come together to organize a holiday to celebrate the world's coffee lovers.

Where to Get Free Coffee

If you want to take advantage of National or International Coffee Day, all you have to do is wake up in the morning and head to your nearest or dearest cafe (no need to change out of your pajamas). Most of us have plenty of local coffee joints in our vicinity.

My husband and I are avid coffee drinkers, so when it comes to our brew, we are a little bit picky. As much as we love brewing coffee at home, however, we never miss a chance to celebrate National Coffee Day with the other java-lovers out there by going out to the coffee shops.

Dunkin' is one of my favorites. It holds a special place in my heart because it was one of the first coffee places I went to while I was a student. On National Coffee Day, they usually offer one free coffee for every coffee you buy. Krispy Kreme has an even better deal. They tend to offer one free coffee and one free donut to each customer—no purchase necessary!

You can also take advantage of National Coffee Day from the comfort of your home. If you own a coffee grinder, use the holiday as an opportunity to buy some of your favorite coffee beans at discounted prices. Some online retailers offer 20–30% discounts on bagged beans in observance of the national celebration.

However you choose to celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful National (or International) Coffee Day. Happy brewing everyone!

No. I didn't know about National coffee day until I read your article. I'm not a regular coffee drinker but sometimes when I get sleepy in the afternoon I grab a cup. My fav flavor is hazelnut.
