Printable Greeting Cards

In this article, you will find a collection of 18 quick and easy Year of the Rabbit greeting cards to use during Chinese New Year. Using your print menu, you can select one—or several—of the templates to print onto an 8.5 X 11 piece of paper or card stock. With these templates, you have a simple and fast way to lead a Chinese New Year craft with a group, or for a multicultural art project at home. Whether you are a teacher, parent, or librarian, you can quickly print these out and have an activity you ready to go.These patterns are specially designed for young children (preschoolers, kindergarteners, or elementary school children) to decorate and color.

Many of the art elements are my own designs; others are under license from iStock or from Pixabay. You are welcome to use them for personal projects or in the classroom, but not for commercial use.

The Phrases Written on the Cards

On each of these cards you will find the Chinese characters for "Happy New Year." You will also find the phrase written in a pinyin transliteration. The pinyin version consists of letters that indicate how the Chinese phrase is pronounced. If you would like to hear the pronunciation, you can hear how to say Xīn nián kuài lè, which means, "Happy New Year" in this video: "Learn How to Say 'Happy New Year in Chinese"

If you look on this site with a chart, you can find out how pinyin works. This site is especially handy because it includes audio that will let you hear what each of the letter combinations sounds like.

Year of the Rabbit Greeting Cards (Tall Cards)

Print these cards onto 8.5" x 11" card stock or onto regular letter sized paper. Then you can fold them in half along the dotted line so that the rabbit picture is in the front.

I have found that these cards are much easier to fold if you take the time to score them first. In order to get a nice score, take a straight edge (for instance, a ruler’s edge) and line it up flush with the line you wish to fold. Then, take the rounded edge of a paper clip and run it along the line, using the straight edge to guide you. By doing this, you’ll make a slight impression along that line, and when you fold the paper along that impression, you will get a much nicer, crisper fold.

I have loaded a sample picture of each of the templates that are available. Click on the thumbnail photos below to see a larger version of each template.

Red is the traditional color for Chinese New Year, so this has been printed onto red card stock. The child drew the rabbit onto white card stock, colored it, cut it out, and glued it to the card.
