The winter Holiday season is my favorite time of year to spread my infectious cheer through crafts and writing. On this page, I share a selection of my favorite seasonal verses, sentiments, and quotations to use in cards.

Short phrases like these are ideal for holiday cards, scrapbooks, and seasonal crafts. No handmade card is complete without a cheery greeting on the front and a festive caption, phrase, or verse on the interior.

Even if you don't make your own cards, you can always personalize a store-bought card with a little effort and creativity. Add a touch of seasonal magic by handwriting a heartfelt message and punctuating it with a festive sentiment from this page.

Short Quotes for Christmas Cards

  • "May peace be your gift at Christmas and your blessing all year through!" —Unknown

  • "It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air." —W.T. Ellis
  • "Peace on earth will come to stay, when we live Christmas every day." —Helen Steiner Rice
I think this makes a wonderfully special sentiment to send to friends and family—regardless of their personal faith—when you pass out or mail your cards.

I like the way this verse is phrased—it is a short but sweet way to express well-wishes to family and friends and it ends with a classic sign off.

Short Poems About Christmas

Let us keep Christmas beautiful without a thought of greed,

that it might live forevermore to fill our every need,

that it shall not be just a day, but last a lifetime through,

the miracle of Christmas time that brings God close to you.

—Garnett Ann Schultz

Through a frosty winter night,

in a sleigh with reindeer flight,

bringing joy to large and small,

Merry Christmas one and all.

—Unknown

From home to home and heart to heart,

from one place to another.

The warmth and joy of Christmas,

bring us closer to each other.

—Emily Matthews

Somehow not only for Christmas but all the long year through,

the joy that you give to others is the joy that comes back to you.

And the more you spend in blessing the poor and lonely and sad,

The more of your heart's possessing returns to make you glad.

—John Greenleaf Whittier

Do You Believe in the Magic of Christmas?

I believe in the magic of the season. Do you? Many people complain about how commercialized this time of year has become, but that doesn't stop me from loving every minute of it each time it December rolls around. I love the 25-day run up to the Christmas day because I enjoy making the cards and gifts to share with family and friends.

I love to sew, so I generally make small, handmade gifts topped off with a sprinkling of love. I also enjoy making Christmas decorations for the house with my little girl. I delight in the precious time I get to spend with the people I care about most. That is the most important part of Christmas for me—I hope you delight in the magic too.
