Vampire's Kiss Cocktail
Vampire's Kiss Cocktail | Source

Tip

  • Remove the red rim from the glass by using hot water of singe worthy temperature and scrub hard.

1. Vampire's Kiss

The drippy, red rim makes this cocktail. It is a little time-consuming but worth it.

Yield: 1 cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 25 ml vodka
  • 20 ml cherry brandy
  • Dash of grenadine
  • Champagne or Prosecco
  • 100 g (0.44 cups) sugar
  • 50 ml (0.25 cups) light corn syrup, for example, Karo
  • 50 ml (0.25 cups) water
  • Drop or two of red food colouring

Instructions:

  1. First prepare the blood sugar rim. Using the above measurements you will end up with more red, rim coating than you need but in order to dunk the cocktail glass successfully you really need to make at least this quantity. To begin add the sugar, syrup and water to a pan and heat without stirring.
  2. Use a probe to measure the temperature. Once the mixture has reached 300 degrees Fahrenheit add a few drops of food colouring.
  3. Dip your cocktail glass into the red syrup as little or as much as you desire. The drips will dribble down and create a good, vampire-esk, bloody effect on the glass.
  4. Add the vodka, cherry brandy and grenadine to a cocktail shaker with a few ice cubes and shake.
  5. Strain into your glass and top with prosecco or champagne.
  6. Serve.

Blue Boo Halloween Cocktail

2. Blue Boo

This electric blue cocktail really looks the part, and the zing of the blue sugar, lime, and Blue Bols gives it a pleasant sherbet-tasting fizz.

Yield: 1 cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 40 ml Malibu
  • 25 ml Blue Bols
  • 20 ml lime juice
  • Lemonade (or similar such as 7up or Sprite)
  • Blue food colouring
  • Coarse or granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. Mix a couple of drops of blue food colouring with a handful of sugar and spread over a plate.
  2. Wipe a wedge of lime with a slit down the middle around the edge of a chilled martini glass.
  3. Dip the rim of a martini glass into the blue sugar. If you scrape the sugar into a smallish pile and dunk a bit of the rim at a time you will get better overall coverage.
  4. Add ice to a cocktail shaker and pour in the Blue Bols, Malibu and lime juice.
  5. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker has frosted.
  6. Strain into the rimmed glass.

3. L'Incantevole Regina Margarita (The Enchanting Queen Margaret)

This Halloween themed margarita looks the part with bright orange liquid and a salty, black rim. But be warned, the black sea salt is intensely strong, and it is advisable to sip this drink through a straw to avoid saline overload!

Yield: 1 Cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 25 ml triple sec
  • 25 ml Reposado Tequila
  • 1-2 limes
  • 60 ml sugar syrup
  • Black sea salt for the rim
  • Orange colouring (This neon orange gel works a treat)

Instructions:

  1. Make the sugar syrup if you don't have any prepared. Add equal parts of caster sugar and water to a pan. Dissolve the sugar and then put in the fridge to cool.
  2. Crush up a handful of black sea salt and spread over a plate.
  3. Cut a wedge of lime and slit it down the middle then wipe it around the rim of a Margarita glass and get busy dipping each section of the rim circumference into the salt. Use the a knife to carefully push the salt around the edge if it doesn't stick readily.
  4. Squeeze 20 ml of fresh lime.
  5. Add ice to a cocktail shaker and pour in the tequila, Cointreau, lime, sugar syrup and orange juice.
  6. Shake for about 15-20 seconds.
  7. Strain into the prepared glass.

For a Slushy Cocktail:

  • To make this a slightly diluted, slushy Halloween cocktail add the ingredients to a blender with plenty of ice. If you wanted to simply chill the cocktail rather than make a frozen drink you could add just a few ice cubes into the blender. For the cocktail pictured about half a dozen ice cubes were used to get a semi-slushy effect and to get a bit more volume so there was enough liquid to fill the glass.

Screwed Up Screwdriver - Black Vodka and Orange
Screwed Up Screwdriver - Black Vodka and Orange | Source

4. Screwed Up Screwdriver

A twist to a classic cocktail in the form of black vodka. It might look like there is rather a generous measure of alcohol in the photo pictured but the black does seep down and begin encroaching on the orange very easily.

Yield: 1 cocktail

Ingredients:

  • 40 ml black vodka such as Blavod
  • 200 ml orange juice (adjust to glass size)
  • Liquorice to garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Fill a high ball glass with ice.
  2. Pour in the orange juice.
  3. Carefully pour the black vodka on top of the orange juice over the back of a spoon so that it rests on top.
  4. Stick the licorice to the edge of the glass. If you put anything like a straw or stirrer in the glass it will ruin the orange and black layers but make sure you mix it up before you drink it as you will either have an immediate nasty shock or (if drunk through a straw) a load of juice followed by a huge hit of more or less neat vodka!
