46 Ideas on How to Propose Marriage

1. Do it the old fashioned way. Get down on one knee with a rose clenched in your teeth and the ring in your hand.

2. Have a waiter bring you her favorite dessert with the ring inside of it. (Be careful that she doesn't swallow it).

3. Take her/him to the theatre and ask the stage manager if he will allow you to come up on stage and propose after the final curtain.

4. Show up at her/his office in the middle of the afternoon armed with a red rose, a bottle of champagne and a glass with the ring in it.

5. Write "Will you marry me (name)" in chalk on the street out side your house or apartment in big letters.

6. Call your local radio station and get them to pop the question for you over the airwaves at a time that you know she/he will be listening. Then dedicate a song to her/him.

7. Gather all your friends and family for drinks either at a favorite restaurant or your home and pop the question in front of everyone.

8. Gather friends and family outside his/her home waving banners with the words will you marry me on them and you standing in front of them all on one knee holding the ring. (Make sure that they get the right house).

9. Send a singing telegram to her/his workplace. Then walk in just after the song is finished and pop the question.

10. Create a web page all about your life together. Photos, places that mean a lot to you both. Send him/her the web address and wait for his/her reply and when accepted you can then send the address to friends and family.

11. Wrap a large box and fill with smaller boxes all wrapped the last box that she will come to will be the smallest with the ring inside. Or alternatively wrap a large box and fill with those tiny foam pieces and let her look for the small box inside.

12. Cut the bottom out of a very large box then wrap it. Take it to her place of work and ask one of her colleague's to go get her telling her that there is a large parcel for her. Meanwhile you climb in from the bottom and when she unwraps it jump out with the ring in hand and ask her to make an honest man of you.

13. Take her/him away for the weekend and when you are on your last day pop the question.

14. Get up extra early and prepare her/him breakfast in bed. Cook his/her favorite meal with a red rose and a bottle of champagne and a kiss to wake him/her and then declare your love.

15. Scatter rose petals all over her bed and put the gift wrapped ring in the center. Tell her that you bought her a gift to show how much you love her. When she opens it tell her that you want to spend the rest of your life with her.

16. Cook your loved one a romantic meal and place a note around the napkin like it is a napkin holder asking her/him to marry you. Or slip the napkin (use fabric ones not paper!) through the ring, when she goes to put her napkin in her lap she will find the ring.

17. Give your her a foot massage and place the ring on her little toe.

18. Blindfold him/her and take them to the place where you first met each other. Take along a bottle of champagne and two glasses to celebrate after you propose.

19. Bake him/her a cake and write on top of it Will you marry me?

20. Take out a full page ad in a paper that you know your loved one reads regularly and be close by when he/she reads it.

21. Buy your loved one a watch and have it inscribed "marry me."

22. Pour her a glass of wine with the ring in the bottom of it and when she drinks the wine she will find the ring.

23. Go for a picnic together then pop the question.

24. Propose at Christmas by hanging the ring in it's box from on the tree as if it was an ornament. Tell her to find the new special ornament you just purchased for her.

25. If you're dining in a fancy restaurant, ask the waiter/waitress to write, "Will you marry me?" in chocolate sauce around the rim of his/her dessert plate.

26. Run her a bath with scented candles, rose petals and after she is in the tub, float a rubber duck with the ring tied around it's neck in front of her.

27. Serve her oysters in bed with the ring inside the shell.

28. Write a note asking your other to marry you, place it inside a bottle. Take her/him to the beach when he/she is in the water slip the bottle in and ask them to open it to see what it says.

29. Spell your proposal out in glow-in-the-dark star stickers on your ceiling. Climb on top of him/her and wait for the yes, yes, yes.

30. Leave a trail of notes for him/her to follow and when he/she reaches the end you will be standing there with a sign or you can say "Will you marry me?"

31. Scratch your proposal into the frost on his or her car's windshield.

32. Take your partner to the beach and write "Will you marry me?" in big letters in the sand.

33. Take him/her on a sailboat ride and pop the question.

34. Leave the ring on her pillow a long with a note and go take a shower.

35. Take her/him up in a hot air balloon with a bottle of champagne and announce that'll you'll jump if she/he doesn't marry you.

36. Take her/him to see his/her favorite band and ask one of the stage crew if they will pop the question for you.

37. Plan a treasure hunt. Set the clues in place and when he/she gets to the last clue you will be standing there with champagne and a proposal they can't refuse.

38. Hire a skywriter to spell your proposal on high.

39. Hire a plane to fly a banner with your "Marry me (insert name here)" message written on it.

40. Sneak in to her home and fill it to the rafters with balloons and or flowers and in the middle sit a teddy bear holding the ring and a note asking her to marry you.

42. Play Hangman and have the phrase be "Marry Me."

43. Throw her/him a surprise birthday party inviting friends and family and then propose.

44. Write her/him a story about your relationship. Almost like a diary with dates if possible. Then end it with the date you are going to give it to him/her telling how you proposed and that the story can't be ended until you have the answer.

45. If it's snowing write "Will you marry me?" in it.

46. Take him to see his favorite sports team playing and get the commentator to ask him to marry you.

I love number 21 it is totally unique and would totally catch me off guard. I love Christmas proposals. It's already a great time of the year but make it even more special with a proposal so number 24 is a great idea as well.

My Fiancé took me to dinner & said oh did you see the new ornament I bought for your tree today sorry it's not a snowman (that's my theme) I thought nothing of it thinking he purchased a "Our First Chrsitmas" ornament. We get home he lights the fireplace & he has to remind me to look for the ornament saying start looking from the bottom so naturally I start from the top & see an angel so I hug & thank him... he says did you really look so I once again looked to finf the angel holding a ring s I started crying as he got the ring & got on one knee & asked if I would spend the rest of my life with him & marr him. I just thought I would share this because it was perfect!!

My friend and her boyfriend went touring around italy, and they came to one of those famous fountains, where there are crowds and crowds of people, and her boyfriend got down on one knee and proposed to her there! She said yes, started crying and everyone started clapping... pretty romantic, and 'movie' like. but i think that would be cool!

    • Alyssa 9 years ago

I was thinking the whole, falling asleep and him slipping the rin gon my finger....and when i wake up in the morning i wouldn't know. and when i walk to the batheroom and am fixing my hair or something, i see the ring and i am shocked, and when i turn around he's already there. Ready to ask me to be the one he spends his life with.... Perfection.

Some advice please..... I am planning on proposing to my girlfriend within the week. I will be taking her to a fancy restaurant then we will stay in one of the villas - she will obviously know what is happening as we have both just had the final fitting for the engagement ring. When do I propose????? before dinner? After dinner? After dinner back in the room? Any ideas???

Also...... Im still to ask the parents - I know they will be estatic but how do I go about it? do I prepare a speech? bring a bottle of bubbley to celebrate????

    • Brittney 8 years ago

Ian, if you have not already... you should make her wait until the next morning... she will be surprised that you did not the night before, but maybe wake her up with breakfast or a flower delivery and then propose...

Doing it on the Hoover Dam in Vegas would be awesome!!! That is one gorgeous place to do it!!!! I think that is an awesome idea. I am going to do it in the restraunt where we had our first date. I am going to rent a limo to take us up, then I am going to make sure that we have the same booth and everything. I will try to get some family and friends in the restraunt to see it. I think I am going to have the limo driver (my boss) come in with a bag and tell me I forgot it in the limo. Take it from there. You know women are very curious.

I decided to look google "How to propose" for my son. He wants to ask his g/f, and he's asked me how he should do it. Some of the ideas are great. I'm thinking of printing this and mailing it to him. But I really think he needs to ask her Dad 1st. But that's going to be a big problem, since he's in basic training in the USAF, and NOT sure will he'll have leave. Any suggestions .........

I am going to propose to my GF of 2 years. She is outdoorsy so i am going to take her to a camp site, build a fire, cook some thing (help, maybe steak, does that say 'I love you'?) and for desert we'll roast s'mores. I'll make one for her with graham cracker, chocolate, and melty marshmallow with the ring stuck inside. I'll hand it to her and ask. Tell me what you think.

    • Jim 8 years ago

Going to place the ring in a very small sealed bag and then inside a marshmellow inside a white chocolate candy wrapped and placed in a candy box.

Proposal would be. "The chocolate candy is me on the outside, a marshmellow on the inside and at the core of me is my love for you. Spend eternity with me and share our lives together."

    • TC 8 years ago

eurgh, these comments are a sickly and b humiliating for the writers. Why not be original and do something romantic, no gross or tacky? Are there really that many people out there with such bad taste and no imagination?

    • SCAM 8 years ago

This is what I am thinking - I have MLK and Inaguration day off so take off friday the 15th to Brussels and then the next day to Antwerpen to buy her a diamond ring. then we can go to amsterdam or paris--- but the thing is when should I propose? On the plane with no ring? on the train to get the ring? btw she has no idea I am taking her to Belgium, she thinks we are going to California...

    • Mikey 8 years ago

I am planning to ask my girlfrien of two years to marry me at christmas time, she is the most wonderful person in the world and i want to spend the rest of my life with her. I was thinking of taking her to see the christmas lights at a local garden where you can walk through at night and have my family and her family there to come out when we walk around the corner and ask her in front of everyone with all the beautiful lights around us. Or should I just get all the fam together at home and pop the question then? any advise I would like for it to be somewhat unique

    • Loz 8 years ago

likewise man except, i'm planning to do it on the 7th of jan her birthday so many different ways to do it just wanna get it right. theres some real nice romantic hotels on roomforromance website google it or something. none really stuck out for me but like you say you want somtheing unique and hotel thing is very mainstream.

    • Mikey 8 years ago

I think i have waited too long to think of how i want to do it but i do know i want to. now that it is getting really close i cant really think of anything so great or unique. ur thoughts?? what was ur ideas?

    • Adam 8 years ago

Mikey, how old are you? I have no idea why, but you sound quite young to me lol.

Don't rush into it if you are young unless you know she'll say yes and you two will last a long long time. Good luck on the engagements guys.

    • Andy  8 years ago

who cares if hes young if you love her marry her dammit its been 2 yrs give er bud go nuts

    • Kyle 8 years ago

Well lemme tell you a short story of the person I plan on getting married to.

I met her at a trip when I was talking to a friend I haven't seen in 5 years. COme to find out I knew her. Well we started dating.

We dated for about 4 months. Then we broke up because we had a BAD argument.

She started dating someone else. I cursed their relationship because I still loved her. And the guy she was with was an asshole.

Eventually they broke up. 2 weeks later we started going back out again.

The day we start going out was the day before she moved.

She moved and i never saw her for 11 months, but we maintained constant communication.

Eventually she stopped calling, and I stopped answering.

Well then i see her in a store. My heart dropped as I stood there staring at her.

Well when i finally got the balls to go talk to her, she was heading for the checkout line.

      SURPRISE!! lol

SO we started going out again. For about 1 1/2. I think its time to propose.

I plan on taking her on that trip where we met eachother.

And where we met, there is this beautiful lake, and around 9:30PM the moon hits the lake water perfectly in the spring. So when we get down there, we will be laying under this ancient tree that probably still have out names carved into it, then i will pull out the ring and propose.

      Does that sound good?

OMG I LOVE the one Where the Guy has to scratch "will you marry me" in the car window as his fiancé calls the cops for grand theft auto!

    • brian 7 years ago

Go to a fancy resturant that you both never been to. Hire a guy that does magic and stick him there. Have him go around to all the tables. Notice him and say" I hate magic I hope he doesn't come over here" have him finally come over and do a few tricks. Have him make the ring appear and pop the question. And if it goes your way have everyone clap! bingo

    • MS 7 years ago

Ladies, any suggestions as to whether be better with family/friends and pop the question or be alone with her?....I'll be going to Europe for two weeks this July but not sure if I want to do it before I go or after I come?.....any suggestions? :)

    • Sarah 7 years ago

Hangman? Writing it on a cake? I know everyone has their own style, but I could never take a man seriously who proposed in a singing telegram…just me though. My advice to all of the men out there getting ready to pop the question: keep it simple. Let the beauty of that not be in the extravagance of the setting, method etc. but in the sincerity of your love. Don’t humiliate her, put her under unnecessary pressure, make her want to vomit at the corniness or otherwise freak her out. Let it be a surprise, but do it alone. When the moment comes, look into her eyes and be as genuine and vulnerable as possible. Tell her what she and your relationship mean to you and what you hope for in your hopeful shared future. Make sure she knows she the only one for you and how blessed you are to have her in your life. Then, just ask…simple as that. No need to overcomplicate.

    • BriceWitten 7 years ago

Get down on one knee, like you are going to propose, and start to tie your shoe. Have the ring hiden in your shoe. She'll get all excited, then disappointed when you tie your shoe. She'll be even more surprised when you pull the ring out.

    • Gregg 7 years ago

I am about to propose tomorrow. I am doing #23. We are going on a nice picnic with food and wine. Then not far from where we are eatting there is a gazebo. She has a song she has always wanted to dance with me to. That song will play and we dance. When its done, there is another song that makes her cry because it has to do with getting married and she wants that badly. That is when I will get done on one knee and ask her to "Make me the luckiest guy in the world and marry me."

After 2 years, lots of effort, time, money, and emotions... I'm sad to say #44 did not work

    • Aubrie 7 years ago

So I'm a little worried. My boyfriend and I have been together for 5 years and we talked about getting married, and that we want to. We even talked about eloping. . We went and looked out rings, and I showed him the one that I liked. Everything is fine and dandy but I'm scared that he is going to just buy the ring and give it to me. Of course I will accept but I want to one day be able to tell my future kids about how wonderful it was.. My mom said to let him do his thing, but he's not very romantic.. and it would be lame to give him suggestions... What should I do?

    • loving soldier 7 years ago

this is what im gonna do... when i get back from my next deployment my plane home is scheduled to stop off in paris.. there i will buy a ring. i will be flying to the airport closeest to my post, so in atlanta im flying back to Texas to meet my girfriend to drive me home... but im telling her im coming home a day later than i will be. Well after 3 years now I am ready to finally ask the most important person in my life I want to be the luckest man in the world and ask her to make me an honest man and marry me. We are getting a nice jazuzzi sweet in downtown denver and I have the hotel manager preping the room before we head in. Rose pedals on the bed, champainge and choclates near by. She knows we are ready and this will be a big surprise to her, becase she just thinks we are going to a concert. This I hope will be a lasting memory only her and I share..I love her very much. I am asking her brother (only man left on her side) for the "OK" to ask for her hand in marriage. I hope this works next month...keep your fingers crossed.

    • Gentry 7 years ago

my sisters husband proposed on a dy that she was in a really bad mood, he went to quiznos and bought himself a sandwich, when she got home on her lunch break (he always brought her her lunch) she asked what it was and he said he didn't get her anything. she was...of course...pretty ticked and went off on him, he told her to just get something out of the fridge, so she opened it and there was a sanwich (her fav) with a sticky note that said marry me with the ring taped to it.

    • Jim 7 years ago

It's simple, surely hate to be formulaic but I'm a writer and have pondered on this for a ridiculous amount of time. I reckon; beautiful scenery... private space - a bent knee, ring in-hand... 3 sentences, A declaration or metaphor of love, one back up and then the question... keep it personalized, maybe mention a time you were both very happy and maybe a declaration of you're commitment... many of the above feel cheap to me... remember it's supposed to be fairy tale don't over avoid the cliché!

      Hi all,

I am planning on asking my girlfriend to marry me. We are going to Disneyland in November.

Would proposing on the drawbridge be to "typical"? Would it be to public?

      Any thoughts would be great!

    • DJ 7 years ago

i was thinking i would taake my girlfriens to an ice skating rink and have cones set up in the "will you marry me" phrase and we could skate around them (we are both vetern skaters) until she noticed what they say.....any thougs....good or bad??????

I proposed to my fiancé on christmas eve, she went to see her perants and when she got back i had layed out 100 roses and 100 lillies, she walked through the door and the song that was playing was the song we first danced to, and when she walked in i gave her, her christmas card with a note in, i memorised the note word for word, and read it back to her telling her how when we first met i knew that no one els could make me happy and would she do me the honor or giving me her hand in marriage, turn out she had got me a ring as she was going to propose to me on christmas day :)

    • alertamanda 7 years ago

      Hey guys.

I've seen some comments on here about it how you shouldn't do something like this in public. I'd have to say.. doing it in public isn't for everyone, but personally, I'd LOVE a public proposal. (From a woman's point of view.) Only do a public proposal if you know she's going to say yes, though. It could be the most humiliating moment of your life or the most memorable. Good luck, gentlemen! (And ladies! :))

    • Kristen C. H. 7 years ago

Ohhhhh, I would LOVE #3!!! I'm not a big fan of someone else asking, like the radio thing, but I would totally love #8! Just don't leave out the personalized mini speech part, hehe. Awesome ideas!!! If only our guys were reading this right now :P

Well I'm about to propose to my girlfriend but I think she already knows about it. I want to do it at school but I don't know if she's going to laugh at what I do. What should I do?!?!?!

    • Sam 6 years ago

Well most ideas are great. What iam going to do is. We are taking a trip to her home town Seattle, WA take her to the best look out of down town. Get on one knee and say " You are the most beautiful, intelligent woman I could ever ask for. I cant imagine spending my life with anyone else but you! You have made my weak grow to strong! I feel like the happiest man in the world with you in my life(name here), would you do he the honor of becoming my wife

what do you think? to sappy? oh yea and guys make sure you ask both of her parents mostly if they are spilt up. Include their step parents! =) I think its harder to ask for their blessing, then to ask the gf to marry you!

      good luck

    • mjp 6 years ago

i love the hangman one! my bf and i play scrabble once in a while and i thought that would be a good thing to incorporate it into. once he told me that since i play farmville a lot (sadly, im addicted) that he would make one and write 'will you marry me' in the crops or using hay bales or whatever and then add me as a neighbor. which i thought was cute cuz hes usually not that thoughtful!

ive been waiting for over 5 years and nothing yet, and we are young and all, but ive asked him before and he has just laughed. its quite discouraging. i have told him several times that i just want the proposal -- not to get married right away! i have picked out my own ring and everything...all he needs to do is gather his guts!

personally, i don't want all kinds of people around. we have never been intimate around others at all. BUT i ABSOLUTELY want documentation. i hope he knows to enlist one of our friends or someone to hide taking video and pictures when it happens!

the other thing is (again, personal preference) i don't want him to spend tons of money on the proposal. creative, yes. expensive, no. i think it takes MORE thought to do something special and unique with no money!

    • DEVON 6 years ago

I am looking for some ideas other than the above , we have been together a long time and she has pick the ring she she is just waiting now I was thinking of doing it in a restaurant on her birthday and have a singing telegram or else at her work place but cant help thinking these maybe to obvious

    • Daniel 6 years ago

Hey i need some help. My proposal is extremely different as I'm proposing to another man. Yes. I'm gay. My boyfriend and I are having serious problems in our relationship as our parents found out and we can not see each other any more, but we are still 'together' and we're making a partywithin a month and I'd like to propose. I don't really want to get married, I just want to do the whole getting engaged and wearing a ring to symbolize our love and always wear it and remember him. It's a 'friends' party, but no one knows about our relationship, how can I make it extremely private but thoughtful at the same time, nothing big just thoughtful. Oh and we cannot leave the house we will be in as his parents may be stalking outside and his father has threatened to kill me, so nothing risky either. It's reallyhard, cause I want to be a 'moment' kinda thing. Thanks in advance.

I am thinking of proposing to my ex. When her and I first kissed, I knew she was the one. You know that feeling. Anyways we got into a bad argument and broke up. I still love her and want to be there but she has a new bf. Would proposing show her how much I love her and let her know my future is with her, or do u think it'll scare her away?

I am proposing in about a week. I will take her to a VERY nice restaurant with all the trimmings. I have enlisted my quartet to help me sing a song to her in the middle of the restaurant. It is from "the wedding singer" where Sandler proposes to Barrymore on the airplane. During the final chord, get down on one knee and then ask her to marry me as soon as we stop singing.

Luis... YES! Or better still (in my opinion)...and if you're both 'early birds', find a beautiful-scenic hill/mountain top and watch the sun rise together and then pop the question. For me it has heaps of symbolism (new beginnings etc).

Of course you'll have to do a 'recky' before hand and check the weather forecast!

If you haven't proposed already, GOOD LUCK! :)

So I am going to propose to my boyfriend of 6 years next month (July 2010. I am just not sure if this is a unique and "good" way to do it, so I am asking for a little feed back. At dinner I am going to write a note for the waiter to give to my boyfriend as I "go" to the restroom, the waiter is going to tell him that someone bought us a drink and then he is going to sit the napkin down on the table and leave it for a few seconds then he is going to pu the wine glass down on top f the napkin with the ring in it and I will be standing behind him waiting for the what do you think?

    • ben 6 years ago

i proposed to my girlfriend by sing to her will u m... me?

    • romes 6 years ago

well my original plan has kinda backfired. she is all over anything i do that seems special or nice and she is kinda upset that she would just be waiting for it and expecting it. I want to catch her by surprise, i don't want her to know what hit her...

She has been looking at getting a new job for a little while now. At the risk of disappointing her a little, i have set up a phony meeting with a recruiter, I got one of the girls from my office to call her and set up an appointment at a cafe. So far so good, she bought it and is going to the place at 10:30 tomorrow morning... when she gets there she'll find me.... looking sheepish. Some people think its cute and clever, i'm just a bit nervous about the time, 10:30 Monday morning then we both have to go back to work, not ideal but i guess its a nice way to start the week.

Lots of great ideas and a few pretty bad ones. I honestly cannot believe how many children have been posting comments here about getting married. These are adults talking and if this were in real life(not the internet) you wouldn't dare share you childish dreams with this audience. If you don't have full control over your life and the decisions you make and your parents still control whether or not you can see your loved one that's a pretty obvious sign you are not ready for marriage.

I am proposing tonight, I'm 30 and she is 28. We've been together for 2 years and lived together for over a year. I'm not exactly sure how it will happen since the weather is not cooperating and I'm currently working on plan B, but its sure to be a very heartfelt moment between two people that love each other deeply and have specific plans for their lives. I'm not extremely concerned with finding the perfect place to do it, or a goofy/creative way to ask. I'm just concentrating on the words that I say and making sure she knows how strongly I feel for her. Everything else will melt away when she says that magical three letter word "YES".

    • Frances 6 years ago

My lord, I didn't realise there was soooo much effort put in to it, this must be an extremely stressful time for you guys.... I believe in the romance of it all, the man on bended knee, asking the love of his life to take his hand... so much planning must take the romance out of it for the guys... I don't envy you... I think simple sweet and romantic and nothing will top it.. you can have a thousand ways to ask some one to marry you... but it only matters if the answer is YES!!!!

    • Rishawn 6 years ago

I got a ton of hershey kisses. And started a trail of hershey kisses from the front door to our restroom. Inside the restroom was a dozen short stem roses taped around the shower head. With a note that said the following: Now that I've kissed the ground that you walk on, and showered you with flowers...Will You Marry Me? I then came around the corner in a tuxedo on one knee with the engagement ring of a lifetime.

*Note this only works well if your house is CLEAN. ESPECIALLY the restroom. Make it look good, smell nice, light candles, dim the lights. Make it a night to remember!

      marry me ring says:

one good proposal idea is using a 'marry me ring'.

It's perfect for those that want to go down on one knee and propose with a ring, but aren't confident about getting the ring.

You can buy one on ebay (type in marry me ring) for £15.

I got a piece of paper and folded it multiple times. On the front I put her name and as she unfolds it. It will ask the question "will you marry me." I put that paper in an envelope on top of a box where the ring is inside and wrapped it. Then I placed that box in a larger box filled with crushed paper and news paper and wrapped that as well. My plan is to pop the question on Christmas day in front of her family.

    • UFO 6 years ago

I'm going with a version of 34. I'm going to leave the ring on her pillow along with some roses and champaign when she gets in the shower. I'll surprise her by getting in the shower with her, then when we get out, dry off, and go to our bedroom to make love, she will see the ring, and I will propose. Then we will make love :)

I just propossed my girlfriend 3 days ago. We were spending some days in a typical little town in Mexico. I took her first to dinning and then I told her to take dessert in my familys place but first she would have to come with me to check some paintings that my cousing was interested in buying (he owns the hotel). When we got the room she inmidiatly began checking the paintings while I was oppening a door to a terrace which was all full o candles and flowers. There were 4 fancy deserts on the table along with a bottle of champaign. As soon as she turned to comment the paintings she could see the terrace and the whole setting se was amazed and broke in tears. We came together to the terrace I opened the champaign bottle and after some minutes a full mariachi band (mexican band) started to play on the street just downstairs from the 2 floor terrace where we were and she started to cry againg se was so happy because she always had wanted me to bring a Serenata (mexican style concert for loved ladies) to her. During the first song I propossed her, it was the third surprise in a row afer she said yes we came over to the side and made a sign to the Mariachi to come up to the terrace and have a private concert. It was just amazing.

      Hi everyone,

Im planning to propose to my gf on our 5th anniversary. This is what I'm gonna do. I going to bring her to a restaurant. While looking thru the menu, the waiter will bring us 2 glasses of champagne with a ring in one of it. My gf will think that i propose to her, which im not YET. The waiter will come again and say he send it to the wrong table. While my gf is disappointed that I didn't propose(which i hope she will be). I will stand up and get down to pretend to tie my loose shoe lace and present her with roses & ring which I have placed it under the table earlier. What do your think?

    • Jack 5 years ago

ok my previous idea seems a little too dramatic.

I got a new idea. Simple & fun. I will bring her to a classy bar and tell her we will be playing a game. Both of us are to write 5 questions about each other. And whoever answer it correct the other must drink a shot, if wrong den the answerer must drink a shot. Lady first and of cos my final question will be the magic words. Please give me some feedback. Im cracking my brain out for ideas to propose to my gf.

While walking around she spotted it and stopped to read it at that time he went down on one knee and showed her the ring- she started crying and said yes! There were ppl standing around and they clapped! it was so sweet and well planned. The ring also has an engraving in it which is adorable!

well i was with my ex for about 7y. we were high school sweethearts. it was about time for me to propose to her. so i did. i got into MMA back then. i had this idea for my first pro fight to win my fight and bring my girl into the ring right after i won, and propose to her in the center of the octagon in front of the audience. it went really good over all. after 1y prier to the day i proposed to her we are no longer together anymore. i am currently involve with someone els. that i strongly have feelings for. i truly feel that she is my everything! so my mind is wondering once again and is eager to plan a really cool or more to say; romantic better idea for my new proposal to my new love. we have been together for about 2 years now, and i am willing to take that extra step. i want it to be not only special but romantic, sweet and big! any idea's people??

I am planning to propose to my honey muffin in the near future. I've been going frantic about how to go about it and all the rings etc.

I have finally found the perfect ring.

      And now the perfect proposal.

I will do a little treasure hunt with hidden notes at each place of importance to us. When she gets to then end, I will be waiting at the place we first met.

Any other ideas? Im not sure if that would work. :/

    • Don 5 years ago

So I was thinking of propsing to my girlfriend. We are both previously married and in our 40s so we have both been there before. I wanted to do something very special and this is what I've come up with. She works in the financial district in San Fransisco and she rides the bus to work and home each night. I thought it would be nice to have a few select friends get on the bus a stop or two after she does so that they are there with us when I propose and then I'd get on a stop later in a tux holding flowers and a ring. I also thought it would be cool to hire a few singers to sing a song that she really likes by the four tops "Sugar pie hunny bunch." maybe as soon as she gets on the bus.

I'd talk this over with the regular bus driver of course so he would be prepared. Thoughts?

I have the ring and this is how I want to do it on Christmas come home and don't tell her have her parents and my parents over to open presents her parents give her a hidden present and then I show up as she finds the ring , or put letter in box that says turn around and be there with the ring and braclete. Or give her a gift from my parents that say welcome to the family and when she turns to ask what I will be there. What do you think?!

Clueless about how to propose to girlfriend of 7 yrs. Only have one idea so far. She has been talking about getting a wedding planning book from the bookstore for a while now the kind with the organizer, ideas, etc. I was thinking I could talk with the bookstore people in advance and plant the ring in one of those wedding books. I would ask the clerk to show us to that section of the store when we get there and she would recommend the book that has the ring stashed in it. My girl would discover it hopefully and turn to see me on a knee...Thoughts please? I feel its lame being in a bookstore but it has reason behind it.

~Sigh, such thoughtful guys out there. Been with my fella' five years and he's not so much as bought me a Christmas present yet. Maybe that's why I remember a cheese sandwich he surprised me with three years ago. Was so touched that he thought of me in the queue to get his lunch. It was filled with all my favourite things.

I'm gonna' write my dream proposal here as I don't imagine a proposal at all will ever happen, nevermind a dream one ...

He wakes me in the morning on a day we both aren't at work with a breakfast tray of tea, cakes and fruit and pretty lovely little things and amongst them is the little velvet box and when i see it, he simply says 'will you marry me?' and then kisses me and puts the ring on my finger. Not the most exciting, to some, but bed in the mornings is one of the only times we get to be together and shut the world out and its just us.

...I'd wait a while before breaking it to him that I've known which dress to wear, got the cake sorted already and even have the wedding favours sorted out ,'' lol

I'm kind of worried that reading these kind of posts will make my future spouse's proposal... expected and that I will disappoint him with my lack of emotions because it is difficult to act surprise after all....

I'm thinking about proposing to my girlfriend at her prom this year. (i know what everyone will be thinking -- we are too young but we have been together for a long time.and we even live together. I am one year older than her and we already went to my prom. Anyway, I was thinking about having the dj call us up on stage and then I could tell her how much I love her and want to spend the rest of my life with her and ask. Then they could play our song. We've already talked about marriage and she can't wait for me to propose. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Do what your heart tells you, if you feel you are ready to propose then it should not matter where it is, however i can personally think of better places than a prom. Although wrong and some may not relevant others will judge you.

      Hope it all goes well

Top of Mount Washington. Go early though take the guided tour before 9:30 it's like $60. at the top you get an hour, if your late you'll only get a half hour. At the summit ask her. I'd try to get her to say something like- me- "what do you think (looking off the summit) she- it's beautiful (or similar) me- but no as beautiful as you and ask her at the highest point in the Northeast. I live in RI, and wheather is pending and etc. but another place is Cathedral Ledge or something falls the name escapes me. sorry.

I have been planning to propose to my girlfriend of 5 years for sometime now. We are both previously married and have six children, I have three and she has three. I was trying to find a time when all of our families would be together but I cant get it. So I am going to do it at my christmas gathering with my family. I just cannot wait any longer, the kids add a twist to it because you never really know how they will react. They are 8 to 17 years old, i'm thinking i just expect the worst and hope for the best. She has no idea! I told her I would never get married again! I'm going to wait until after the presents have been opened christmas eve then say there is one more.

I'll be proposing on Christmas Eve (unless nerves get the better of me!). My girlfriend's a nurse, and is working on Xmas Day, so we're having our Christmas a day early.

We've already agreed to do stockings for each other, and my plan is to have the ring in it's box, wrapped like everything else, right at the toe of the stocking. When she finds it and opens it I'll pop the question. Then we've got the whole day together, Xmas dinner (we do the big turkey, trimmings etc thing on Xmas day rather than thanksgiving in England), go for a walk, watch nonsense on the telly and have a few drinks. Obviously I'm hoping it'll snow. It's bloody cold at the moment, so you never know!

There was no way I'd get the ring thing right, so I've ordered a hello kitty ring (she's a fan) - only 15 quid, but it's more symbolic than anything else, and I figure we can go shopping for what she wants between Xmas and NY.

Now there's just the small matter of ringing her Dad and asking for his permission. Only met him a couple of times, but we seemed to get on well.

Oh, and no. 29 is a truly dreadful idea! (nos 9, 17, 25 and 31 aren't much better), but what do I know...

      Happy Christmas all..

I like number one! The classic. And it also would make a great prop for the idea that I'm going to throw out there: hire a photographer to secretly hide somewhere and photograph the moment when he gets down on one knee. My husband did this and the photos came out amazing! I thought it was such a cute extra... definitely got him some brownie points. Once I was done screaming he came out from behind the bushes in Central Park and introduced himself, then snapped some cute happy-couple photos. The guys he hired were awesome. Go to them if you are in NYC!

Be ALONE with your girl when you propose! You want to start a life with HER, not her family, plus it will put extra pressure on her that may result in her saying NO! When and IF she does say yes, her family will find out and you will eventually be ONE big family.

Make her feel like you want to start a life TOGETHER, you and her. Less pressure for you AND her.

Good luck boys, remember she WANTS to say yes :)

      What about this:

Go somewhere nice for dinner that has nice property (like a place that holds events). After dinner, go to the car, and pretend it won't start up. Pretend to call the tow truck company and tell your date the wait will be one hour. Tell her to go for a walk while you are waiting. Have something set up where you are walking to... It would be all dark, then all of a sudden...lights, music, drinks. Then pop the question.

    • Spencer 4 years ago

Those were some great ideas, but i have one of my own.

This week I am going to ask my gf to marry me, by buying a hart shaped tart tray and put it in a large 1 gallon zip lock bag with a fake ring in the center of the tart tray, along with a a lamented note. Fill the bag with water and freeze it. I'll give her the frozen bag and let her melt it. Where she will get the note which says, "Now that you have melted my hart will you marry me!" (I'm using the fake ring so as not to possibly damage her diamond ring :))

If i ever do pop the question I'm going to have all our friends from school transported on a bus to the beach and blindfold her, then have Will you Marry me and walk her up to it and take the blindfold off and when or hopefully she says yes all the friends come out.

I wrote my fiancé a song so that she'd have a keepsake that would stand the test of time. The song was about our relationship and how we met, in the end of the song i asked her to marry me. You can hear the song here.
