Party Ideas for a Bird-Themed Baby Shower
Bird-Themed Baby Shower Ideas
Birds and mommies-to-be have a lot in common. Both intensively prepare their home for the arrival of their sweet baby, provide it with so much love and nourishment, and take care of their little ones until they that fateful day when they leave the nest. If your mommy-to-be happens to love birds, you may consider throwing her a bird-themed baby shower. This cute and unique baby shower idea is a neutral theme, so it could work well with either a baby boy or baby girl.
Having recently helped with the planning of a bird-themed baby shower, I thought I would share some of the party ideas that we used. Read further to find ideas for invitations, decorations, food and cake ideas, games and activities, and so much more.
Bird-Themed Baby Shower Invitations
Baby shower invitations made on the computer are super easy and can help save money while planning your party. All you have to do is change the page layout to 5x7 borderless and fill in your party details. Search the Internet for a cute bird image and attach to the top of your invitation. Select a colored border to complement your image and print out on cardstock paper.
Our mommy-to-be has been on bed rest for almost seven months now, so we started our invitation wording with "Poor mommy-to-be has been on bed rest. So let's get together and help build her nest!" If your soon-to-be mommy was not on bed rest, you could put something like "Mommy-to-be will soon get no rest . . . So let's get together and help build her nest!" Use your imagination and come up with a clever poem to incorporate the bird theme into your invitation.
Bird Themed Table Décor and Food Ideas
Planning out the table décor and food was by far my favorite part of this baby shower. We found some really great ideas online and tweaked them a little with a few ideas of our own.
For the tableware, my sister found some cute and napkins with a mommy, daddy, and baby bird on them. Matching the theme of the tableware, we bought baskets and filled these with brightly colored Easter grass to resemble a bird's nest. Then we placed our serving dishes full of food on top. If you can't find Easter grass, substitute fake moss which can be found at your local craft store. nesting birds plates
Throughout the main food table, guests found brightly colored, hand-painted birds and birdhouses. You can see one birdhouse in the pictures to the right surrounded by our bird nest cupcakes. In addition to the cupcakes, we also served several finger foods including chips with dip, fruit in a watermelon baby carriage, pinwheels, vegetable tray, zucchini muffins, and pink lemonade to drink. Another cute food idea for this shower would be to make chicken salad sandwiches and cut into bird shapes with a cookie cutter.
Bird-Themed Cake Ideas
Instead of a baby shower cake, we opted for cute bird's nest cupcakes. Below you will find a list of supplies and step-by-step directions for creating these yummy treats for your party.
- Once cupcakes are completely cool, frost with buttercream icing.
- Place shredded coconut on baking pan. Bake in oven on 350 degrees for about 8-10 minutes or until brown.
- Sprinkle coconut on top of cupcakes to make the bird nest.
- Add an egg-shaped piece of candy (mini Cadbury eggs, jelly beans, etc.) on top of the coconut.
- If desired, add eyes and a beak to the candy with colored icing to make the egg into a baby bird.
Note: We only put coconut on half of the cupcakes for those guests who may not enjoy the taste of coconut.

Baby Shower Games and Activities
At our shower, we had a couple of activities planned for the guests.
"Wishes for Baby" Activity
The first activity was a simple worksheet called "Wishes for Baby." On cute stationery, my sister typed up the ten sentences you see above. Each guest filled our her wishes for the new baby and then my sister put each sheet in a scrapbook she had made for the mommy-to-be. It was such a sweet idea and I am sure her friend will treasure that scrapbook for years to come. I can just imagine her pulling it out when her daughter gets older and sharing the wishes everyone had for her before she was born.
DIY Onesies and Bibs Activity
After the guests got through eating, we set up for the second activity. The dining room table was converted into craft central with all sorts of supplies including fabric paint, lots of iron-on transfers, onesies, and bibs. Each guest got the chance to show off her creativity and make a homemade onesie and bib for the new baby. I have to admit that I was surprised at the craftiness of this group of ladies. As you can see from the photos, this new baby girl is going to be quite stylish in all her homemade onesies and bibs.
What part of a baby shower do you enjoy the most?

With this theme, we found so many fun ideas that it was hard to narrow them down to the ones I described above. Overall, we were very pleased with the results and the guests really seemed to enjoy the shower. So if you are looking for themes for an upcoming baby shower, I highly recommend hosting a bird-themed baby shower for your new mommy-to-be!
