How Is Gardening Therapeutic?

Between my beautiful garden and my home library, I can never feel lonely. Honestly, I am not a gardener in the literal sense, but I enjoy cultivating, watering and nurturing my plants. Seeing them grow is a great feeling of sheer joy and creation, and it‘s therapeutic, too. This is my way to add colour, fragrance and positivity to my life.

I don’t have a very large area to grow my plants in, but I love my small piece of land. I grow flowers, some lovely vines, a variety of edible herbs and some easy-to-grow vegetables. I also have many potted plants. The best part of gardening is that the greenery attracts birds, butterflies and bees. It’s lovely to watch them.

Every morning, when I see a new blossom, I feel happy, and it automatically brings a smile to my face. In other words, it makes my day. I make sure to take plenty of pictures of my garden flowers and other plants because they are so shortlived. They spread happiness and then dry out, but their beauty is captured in my photographs forever.

If you have even just a small area available, you should consider growing plants. If you don't have any ground available to you, you can still cultivate plants in pots. The happiness derived from watching your green garden thrive is incomparable. The following are some wonderful quotes to provide you with some gardening inspiration.

Thank you Peggy, for sharing your personal experiences about gardening. We don’t even realise, how our elders influence our thoughts and actions, from the very beginning. Obviously, you can understand the sentiments behind this article.

With gardening as your hobby or passion, it’s quite possible, that you can never feel alone. I love the sight of my greens, when I water them every morning. They seem to be singing and dancing to add to my happiness.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on June 21, 2020:

These quotes you selected about gardening are so apt. I grew up watching my grandfather and his gardening. Even when he was widowed, and had a smaller home, he planted rose bushes and cared for them on a daily basis. His huge gardens when we were younger and living close to our grandparents, fed our combined families with most of the product throughout the year because of it being canned and preserved. He interspersed flowering plants amidst the vegetables. When I was old enough to have my own home, I started gardening and find much joy in doing so.

Chitrangada,

You have found my heart. I absolutely love flowers.

I planted spring bulbs when I first moved here last September just so I could see the first blooms of Spring.

It was a delight to see the little plants peering their heads up through the ground.

I love your first quote....it is the garden that nurtures us.

And the 7th one...I feel more like myself in the garden than anywhere else on earth. It is truly where I feel at home.

Thanks for this pleasant read.

I've always loved gardening! To me, it is a form of art only with plants and soil as your paint brushes and canvas. When I'm depressed about something, I find that spending time in the garden enables me to, once again, see the miracle of life in the plants and animals around me, uplifting my mood.
